Sculptural Jewellery |
While my "Collections" include some very wearable pieces, my personal aim for creating jewellery is to fully explore my artistic intent and to push the boundaries of what constitues jewellery. I achieve this through creating large scale, sculptural pieces, which may not be suitable for everyday wear, but find their fullest expression in photographic installation, capturing the moment of interaction between the piece and the wearer. |

In these large scale pieces, fragile wire cage units envelop quivering rubber shapes that when worn sway with the movement of the wearer, thus creating the illusion of tidal movement as well as that of a living organism. In accordance with the deep sea theme, I have come to see the body of the wearer as a rock on which my jewellery creations grow and flourish. |
The traditional function of jewellery as bodily adornment is extended as these creations also represent artistic objects in their own right, and are intended for display when not worn. This I try to convey by creating installations of large, backlit domes on which to display my jewellery. When arranged for display the translucent quality of the silicone allows for light to pass through the pieces from behind and transforms them into light installations. |
